Sony's Breakthrough RGB LED LCD TV Technology Announced

Sony is set to revolutionize the LCD TV market with its latest RGB LED backlighting technology, unveiled at their Tokyo headquarters. This advanced system employs independent red, green, and blue LEDs, replacing the conventional white or blue backlights found in typical QLED and MiniLED panels. By controlling each primary color separately, Sony achieves exceptional color purity and an expansive color gamut, surpassing 99% of the DCI-P3 and 90% of the BT.2020 standards. This enhancement allows for more accurate color reproduction and improved luminance control, catering to both HDR10 and Dolby Vision content with remarkable precision.

The new RGB LED backlight boasts a high peak brightness of up to 4,000 nits, ensuring vibrant and impactful visuals even in well-lit environments. Mass production of Sony’s RGB LED LCD TVs is anticipated to begin later in 2025, with consumer availability expected in 2026.
