The Philips GP-400 mk II is a cartridge part of the second generation of Philips SUPER-M series. It features a spherical stylus, specifically model 946/D65, and is designed to perform well with a tracking force ranging from 1.5g to 3g. This cartridge is characterized by its medium to high compliance, making it suitable for various vinyl records. The GP-400 mk II is compatible with other members of the SUPER-M family, allowing for use of various styli from models like GP-401 mk II, GP-406 mk II, and GP-412 mk II. Although original styli may no longer be available, aftermarket alternatives are accessible, offering different performance features, including options for mono and stereo playback. Notably, an upgrade can be made with the JICO Super Analog Stylus (SAS) on a Boron cantilever, which provides an impressive audio experience with a recommended tracking force of 1g to 1.5g. The GP-400 mk II, later refreshed as the GP-500 mk II, shares compatibilities with both series, keeping its relevance in the cartridge market.
