The IB2S-A is designed to bring the acclaimed qualities of PMC’s larger ATL™ reference active monitors to a more compact form, targeting users who require high-end reference monitoring and mastering solutions. This stand-alone unit incorporates DSP-controlled, Class-D amplification alongside PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™) bass-loading technology, ensuring a refined and detailed low-frequency response.
Within its cabinet, the IB2S-A houses 10-inch carbon-fiber/Nomex™ piston drivers, sourced from the well-regarded IB1S and IB2S speakers. To manage the mid-range, a 75mm fabric-dome driver is utilized, complemented by a 34mm soft-dome tweeter derived from the BB5 XBD-A models. Each IB2S-A cabinet is equipped with a robust 960W of independent power: 200W is channeled to both high-frequency and mid-range drivers, while the low-frequency driver receives 560W. This allocation ensures extended, low-distortion precision monitoring down to 20Hz.
The monitor is designed with user customization in mind, featuring adjustable HF and LF shelving filters, and per-channel ±8dB input level trims. Standard connectivity options include an AES3 digital input, with the flexibility to modify the input sensitivity of the balanced analogue inputs from +4dB to +20dB. These settings, along with EQ, level trims, and analogue/digital input selections, can be adjusted remotely using the supplied RJ45-connected remote control.
For expanded audio capability, the IB2S-A master cabinet can operate as a standalone speaker or be paired with the single-driver XBD bass cabinet to create the IB2S XBD-A system, mirroring the popular BB5-XBD-A reference monitor configuration. Since its introduction, the IB2S-A has become a staple among high-profile users around the globe, including renowned studios like Galaxy with Ronald Prent and Kraftwerk’s Kling Klang, demonstrating its powerful performance and unmatched definition across the audio spectrum. This makes the IB2S-A an ideal choice for stereo or surround sound projects requiring precise reference monitoring.
