Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, 2025. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the new console introduces significant enhancements aimed at delivering superior gaming experiences both in handheld and docked modes. The Switch 2 maintains backward compatibility with selected first-generation games and introduces "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Games," which are remastered titles featuring improved functionalities and advanced technical features. Similar to the upgrade paths seen with the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, owners can expect next-gen upgrades available at reduced prices.
The Switch 2 is equipped with a larger 7.9-inch LCD display boasting a 1080p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, now supporting HDR for richer visuals. When connected to a compatible television, the console can output 4K video at 60 Hz with HDR capabilities, ensuring crisp and vibrant imagery. To maintain optimal performance, the dock now includes an integrated fan system to regulate the console’s temperature during prolonged use. Additionally, the introduction of the C-Taste enhances gameplay by enabling the "Game Chat" feature, allowing seamless communication and screen sharing with friends and family across different games.
Audio capabilities have been significantly upgraded, with the Switch 2 supporting 3D Audio for headphones, providing an immersive sound experience comparable to that of the Sony PlayStation 5. The console comes with a substantial 256 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD Express cards, ensuring swift data retrieval and storage optimized for demanding games. Alongside the console, a new Pro Controller featuring the C-Taste will be released, and the Joy-Cons will gain mouse functionality, catering to diverse gaming preferences and enhancing gameplay precision.
At launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced at €469.99, with a bundle option featuring "Mario Kart World" available for €509.99. Pre-orders open on April 8, 2025, and given the robust feature set and enhanced capabilities, the demand is expected to be substantial. The console's extensive library includes exclusive titles like "Mario Kart World" and "Donkey Kong Bananza," as well as ported hits such as "Elden Ring" and "Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade," ensuring a compelling lineup for both new and existing gamers.
