SEAS

Founded in 1950 as a spin-off of Norwegian radio manufacturers Radionette and Tandberg, SEAS (Scandinavian Electro Acoustic Systems) Fabrikker AS has established itself as a market-leading manufacturer of high-end loudspeaker drivers and related products, operating from rural surroundings outside the town of Moss on the east side of the Oslo Fjord. Officially formed in 1956 with two shareholders, Jan Wessel and C.C. Nørgaard Madsen, the company has deep roots in Norwegian audio engineering history, building upon the legacy of the first Norwegian electrodynamic loudspeaker drivers designed in the late 1920s at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH). Located at Ryggeveien 96 in Moss, Norway, SEAS has been dedicated to creating loudspeakers with superior sound reproduction for over seven decades, maintaining its commitment to the highest standards by putting effort into speaker design using materials and techniques that deliver the best audible results, even when this leads to time-consuming and challenging production processes. The company achieved significant milestones including developing one of the very first soft dome tweeters in 1968 and designing one of the world's most successful loudspeakers, the Dynaco A25, in 1969 by SEAS engineers. Manufacturing comprehensive product lines including the PRESTIGE, EXCEL, EXOTIC, and LOTUS (automotive) ranges, SEAS produces high-quality woofers known for deep bass response and low distortion using materials like polypropylene, aluminum, and paper cones, soft dome tweeters with silk or paper materials for smooth high frequencies, and midrange drivers focused on clarity and accuracy in critical midrange frequencies. With many critical parts produced in-house using special purpose machinery designed and built by themselves, including dome tweeters manufactured 100% by hand in Norway, SEAS takes pride in tailoring drivers to meet specific customer demands while maintaining employee ownership structure. In 2018, SEAS became part of Merry Electronics Co., Ltd., yet continues to operate as a company owned by its employees, preserving its reputation for quality and innovation in the global audio industry while serving audiophiles and professional applications worldwide from their Norwegian manufacturing base.
