The Sony STR-7055 is a stereo receiver that was manufactured from 1972 to 1976, featuring a classic design often complemented by a wood case. With an output of 55 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 35 watts per channel into 8 ohms, it delivers solid performance for its time. The front panel is elegantly styled with a satin finish, prominent dial cut-out, and illuminated scales. The balance control is accessible via a small lever, while the FM dial showcases linear calibrations. The receiver accommodates multiple speaker configurations, including a three-pair speaker selector and an off position for headphones. Tone customization is supported with separate bass and treble controls for each channel, as well as high and low cut filters. It can operate in various modes including stereo, mono, and channel-reversed configurations. The STR-7055 includes connections for two tape recorders and features a muting circuit to reduce interstation noise. The AM section and preamplifier are designed for high fidelity and stability, ensuring low distortion and strong signal-to-noise ratios. The power amplifier utilizes a direct-coupled output circuit for high performance. A later variant, the STR-7055A, was produced with unclear differences. This receiver remains a favored piece for vintage audio enthusiasts due to its appealing aesthetics and sound quality.
