Founded in 1981 in Paris by electronics professor Yves-Bernard André, YBA (named from the founder's initials) began operations with just one amplifier and one preamplifier. André, who has been designing audio products since 1971 and holds several patents, previously worked for prestigious hi-fi companies like Goldmund and Audax before establishing his own company. Having worked at École Polytechnique, one of France's most prestigious universities, André created distinctively French products recognized for their unusual design and passionate approach to achieving absolute true sound reproduction. YBA gained recognition through the 80s, 90s, and 2000s for its unique philosophy and sound quality. In 2009, Chinese manufacturer Shanling purchased a significant stake in YBA, with André retaining shareholding and continuing as chief designer. After a brief market absence, YBA products relaunched internationally in May 2012, maintaining André's design philosophy at the heart of continued product development.
