The JVC MC-L 10 is a Moving Coil (MC) type cartridge that was manufactured in Japan between 1981 and 1984. It features a unique direct-coupled system that minimizes transmission loss by placing the coil closer to the needle tip compared to conventional cartridges. The innovative design utilizes a microcoil that is significantly lighter than traditional wound coils, allowing for enhanced performance and improved tracking. With a reduced distance of 1.0 mm from the needle tip to the coil, the MC-L 10 is engineered for superior characteristics and trace performance. The cartridge is equipped with highly tapered beryllium cantilevers, which enhance rigidity and further minimize mass. It boasts specifications that include an output voltage of 0.25 mV at 1 kHz, a frequency range extending from 10 Hz to 50 kHz, and channel separation of 27 dB at 1 kHz. Additionally, the cartridge has an impedance of 30 Ω and is designed to operate with a load resistance of 30 Ω or more. Dynamic compliance is rated at 8 x 10^-6 cm/dyne at 100 Hz, with a recommended needle pressure setting of 1.5 ± 0.15 g. The needle tip used is the Shibatar mkIII, and the unit has a dead weight of 8.7 g. Replacement of the needle is available through dealers or Victor Service, reflecting its designed longevity and maintainability.
