South Korean audio brand Astell & Kern has unveiled its latest flagship in-ear headphones, the Luna, priced at €3,000 ($2,700). Designed to embody the brand's philosophy of merging cutting-edge technical mastery with sophisticated design, the Luna aspires to deliver an unparalleled listening experience. Manufactured in Japan, the Luna's construction showcases meticulous craftsmanship and premium materials aimed at both auditory and visual excellence.
The Luna features a single wide-range micro planar magnetic driver, dubbed "Katabiki," developed in collaboration with Japanese acoustics specialist Madoo. With a diameter of 13mm, the driver leverages a powerful magnetic system utilizing dual-ring yokes to enhance diaphragm control. The use of ultra-thin foil with aluminum-patterned etchings reduces diaphragm weight, promising precise movement and reduced distortion. The diaphragm's housing is made from CNC-machined aluminum, ensuring rigidity and stability.
Encased in a titanium shell, the Luna emphasizes durability while maintaining comfort during extended listening sessions. The design, inspired by the curvature of the lunar surface, incorporates finely calibrated contours for optimal acoustic flow. The titanium shell not only exhibits visual elegance but also helps refine the sonic response of the Katabiki driver. Astell & Kern claims remarkable speed, resolution, and the ability to reproduce the subtlest of musical details, with a frequency range of 20 Hz to 30 kHz and an impedance of 5 Ohms.
The included cable combines oxygen-free copper with strands of high-purity silver, engineered to deliver a highly detailed and precise sound signature. Astell & Kern also provides seven pairs of ear tips made from three different materials, allowing users to achieve the best possible fit. The storage case, resembling a piece of luxury jewelry, further accentuates the premium nature of the Luna package.
The Astell & Kern Luna in-ear headphones are set to be released soon, with an estimated retail price of $2,700 / €3,049. Their uncompromising approach to design, materials, and engineering aims to capture the hearts of audiophiles seeking high-performance audio solutions.
