5 November 2024 by Mike Danyk

In a groundbreaking move for the radio industry, Audacy has partnered with artificial intelligence company Super Hi-Fi to launch the first commercial FM station powered entirely by AI. Starting on October 31, Denver's Front Range Country 103.1 is now fully scheduled and automated using Super Hi-Fi's suite of advanced AI technologies. These include music scheduling, production, voice track mastering, and audio preparation, all designed to enhance the listener experience and streamline station operations.

Audacy's team utilizes Super Hi-Fi's cloud-based Program Director, allowing them to manage music curation, content, advertising, scheduling, voice tracking, and station playout from any laptop. This innovative integration enables high-quality radio experiences to be designed and delivered more efficiently than ever before.

Simplifying Station Management with AI

The new AI-driven, cloud-first system significantly reduces the costs and complexities associated with traditional broadcast operations. By moving to a fully transmitter-based playout system supported by the Orban 5950 Super Hi-Fi Edition, the combined technologies simplify station management while lowering operational expenses.

"As we continue to invest in technology that enhances our content and portfolio, we're excited to expand our partnership with Super Hi-Fi and integrate their capabilities at Front Range Country 103.1," said Jeff Sottolano, Audacy's Chief Programming Officer. "Together, we'll optimize programming and production to better serve our listeners and partners."

Super Hi-Fi's CEO, Zack Zalon, echoed this enthusiasm: "This is an exciting milestone. Through this partnership, we're driving innovation across the industry, maintaining radio's legacy as a premier listening experience but with greater simplicity and efficiency."

What This Means for the Future of Radio

The integration of AI technology into FM broadcasting marks a significant shift in how radio content is curated and delivered. Benefits of this advancement include:

  • Enhanced Listener Experience: AI can curate playlists and content that align closely with listener preferences, providing a more personalized and engaging experience.
  • Operational Efficiency: Automating routine tasks allows radio stations to allocate resources more effectively, focusing on creativity and strategic growth.
  • Innovative Content Delivery: AI enables the creation of dynamic and interactive content, such as real-time news updates and personalized advertisements.

This collaboration reflects a broader trend in the radio industry toward adopting AI to improve content delivery and listener engagement. Super Hi-Fi has previously partnered with other companies to produce fully AI-generated radio content, demonstrating the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in traditional broadcasting models.

Looking Ahead

As AI technology continues to evolve, its application in radio broadcasting is likely to expand, offering new opportunities for innovation and audience connection. The launch of Front Range Country 103.1 could set a new standard for radio stations worldwide, blending the timeless appeal of radio with cutting-edge technology.
