Bryan Ferry is set to make a significant return with his 17th solo studio album, Loose Talk, scheduled for release on March 28, 2025, via his own label, Dene Jesmond Records. This time, Ferry collaborates with performance artist Amelia Barratt, marking the first occasion he's set another writer's words to his music.
Today, the lead single "Orchestra" dropped, accompanied by a video shot and directed by Ferry himself. The track offers a fresh blend of Ferry's signature sound with Barratt's evocative writing, hinting at a new chapter in his illustrious career.
The collaboration between Ferry and Barratt began serendipitously at an art exhibition opening. Both artists share a deep-rooted art school background—Ferry studied painting at Newcastle University in the 1960s, while Barratt honed her craft at The Glasgow School of Art and The Slade School of Art. Their shared passion for combining different artistic mediums sparked this unique partnership.
Previously, they teased their joint efforts with the song "Star," featured on the deluxe version of the Retrospective compilation. However, Loose Talk takes a different approach, with all 11 tracks co-written, allowing Barratt's distinct voice to shine through Ferry's compositions. Ferry mentioned, "The whole experience of making Loose Talk has had an interesting newness about it. It seems to have opened a whole new chapter in my work. There's a really strong mood to the work that Amelia does, and I was very conscious of not getting in the way of her words. Hopefully, together, we've created something neither could do on our own."
For the audiophiles awaiting this release, the album will be available on both CD and vinyl formats. The vinyl comes in black, clear, and an exclusive green variant, while the CD is packaged in a hardcover book style. Notably, Bob Clearmountain has crafted an Atmos mix, enhancing the listening experience, which should be available on streaming platforms once the album is out.
