Optoma has unveiled its latest innovation in the home entertainment sector with the Photon Go Ultra Short Throw (UST) projector, showcased at the 2025 Bristol HiFi Show. This portable projector is the inaugural model in Optoma’s new Photon Series, aiming to blend high performance with exceptional portability for both home and on-the-go use.
At the heart of the Photon Go lies a DLP imaging chip paired with an RGB triple laser light engine, eliminating the need for color wheels or filters. This configuration delivers a wider color gamut, superior color accuracy, and deeper contrast levels. The RGB lasers ensure consistent brightness over an impressive 30,000 hours of use, surpassing many competitors in longevity and performance. With a native resolution of 1080p Full HD and compatibility with 4K UHD sources, the Photon Go scales down higher resolution signals seamlessly for crisp image display.
One of the standout features of the Photon Go is its ultra-portable design, measuring just 252 x 157 x 62mm and weighing 2.73kg. Its built-in rechargeable battery offers up to 1.5 hours of playtime, making it ideal for flexible setups whether indoors or outdoors. The projector can generate a 100-inch image from less than 25cm away from the wall, thanks to its innovative UST lens and auto image correction. Additionally, integrated Google TV provides access to a vast array of streaming services, while dual 10W built-in speakers with Dolby Audio enhance the viewing experience without the immediate need for external audio equipment.
Connectivity is robust, featuring Wi-Fi, GoogleCast, and Google Assistant support, alongside multiple ports including HDMI 2.0 and USB-C. This ensures that users can easily connect various devices or utilize the projector’s Bluetooth speaker functionality for versatile audio options. Compared to Optoma’s previous GT3500HDR model, the Photon Go offers fewer lumens at 650, which may affect HDR performance in brighter environments, but its portability and smart features present a compelling option for users prioritizing flexibility and ease of use.
Priced at £899 / €999 and set to launch in April 2025, the Photon Go positions itself as a competitive entrant in the UST projector market. While it may not match the brightness levels of some higher-end models, its compact form factor, integrated streaming capabilities, and long-lasting laser light source make it an attractive choice for audiophiles seeking a versatile and portable projection solution.
