Pearl Acoustics Introduces Enhanced 170 SE Tube Amplifier and Innovative 7040 Class D Power Amplifier

6 March 2025 by Mike Danyk

Pearl Acoustics has announced significant updates to its esteemed lineup with the introduction of the revised 170 SE Tube Amplifier and the new 7040 Class D Power Amplifier. The 170 SE marks a substantial evolution from its predecessor, featuring enhanced internal circuitry, an optimized layout, and a streamlined architecture. Upgrades to key components ensure improved performance, while the chassis has been redesigned in collaboration with a premier UK manufacturer to complement the aesthetics of the upcoming 7040 model. Custom color options are also available, allowing for personalized integration into diverse audio setups.

The development of the 170 SE includes a careful selection of tubes, with the PSVANE 'Horizon' KT150 emerging as a standout choice. This tube delivers impressive holography, robust bass, and exceptional detail without compromising output power or introducing unwanted brightness. Advances in mains and output transformer technology further contribute to the amplifier's refined sound signature, aligning it with high-fidelity expectations. Production of the 170 V2.0 boards is underway, with delivery anticipated before the end of the year.

Simultaneously, Pearl Acoustics is set to unveil the 7040 Class D Power Amplifier at the upcoming Axpona audio fair in the United States this April. Built on Purifi’s 7040 modules, the 7040 delivers formidable power outputs of 250 watts per channel at eight ohms, 500 watts at four ohms, and an impressive 950 watts at two ohms. The fully dual mono design ensures minimal interference between channels, while the amplifier's lightweight construction at 8.5 kilograms facilitates flexible placement within various audio environments.

Distinct from conventional Class D amplifiers, the 7040 boasts a sound quality comparable to that of Class A and high-end tube amplifiers. This achievement is attributed to meticulous engineering that eliminates the typical tonal limitations associated with Class D technology. Although photographs of the 7040 are not yet available, the amplifier is expected to be priced around €5,000, exclusive of local VAT and transportation costs.

Pearl Acoustics continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering high-performance audio equipment by enhancing its existing products and introducing innovative new solutions. Audiophiles can look forward to experiencing the refined sound and technical excellence that the 170 SE and 7040 amplifiers promise to deliver.
