Stack Audio Introduces the New SmoothLAN Regenerator for High-Fidelity Streaming

3 March 2025 by Mike Danyk

Stack Audio has unveiled the SmoothLAN Regenerator, an advanced digital stream regenerator designed to enhance high-resolution music streaming over Ethernet networks. Building on the foundation of the SmoothLAN network filter, this new device incorporates enhanced isolation, optimized grounding, and a precise clock frequency to ensure pristine audio quality. The addition of a low-noise power supply further contributes to the reduction of digital signal interference, promising a noticeable improvement in sound reproduction from network sources.

Encased in a compact aluminum chassis measuring 23 x 80 x 105 mm, the SmoothLAN Regenerator is available in both silver and black finishes. Its streamlined design features a single input and output RJ45 Ethernet port, effectively minimizing cross interference commonly associated with multi-port switches. Supporting network speeds of 100 Mbps and compatible with 1 Gbps setups, the device employs double passive filtering and triple active reclocking to maintain signal integrity without compromising the digital stream.

Technical precision is evident in the device's architecture, with the main clock generator housed within a separate, shielded chamber to protect against thermal fluctuations and electromagnetic interference. The power supply for the clock generator is specially isolated, significantly reducing phase noise and jitter. Inside, the aluminum case acts as a radio frequency shield, while the internally compartmentalized layout minimizes cross-talk between circuits. Additionally, gold-plated grounding tracks enhance noise reduction, ensuring a clean and accurate audio signal.

Included with the SmoothLAN Regenerator is a high-quality CAT7 Ethernet cable made from oxygen-free copper (OFC), measuring 0.5 meters with individual shielding to maintain signal purity. The device’s meticulous construction extends to its power supply unit, which features multi-stage filtering and active regulation to sustain stable operation at exceptionally low noise levels. Priced at £750 in the UK, the SmoothLAN Regenerator represents a significant investment for audiophiles seeking to elevate their networked audio setups.

With its blend of robust technical features and refined engineering, the Stack Audio SmoothLAN Regenerator stands out as a compelling option for those dedicated to achieving the highest fidelity in their digital music streaming environments.
