Velodyne Acoustics, a name that many of us hold in high regard, is gearing up to showcase some serious new gear at ISE 2025 in Barcelona from February 4-7. The big news? They're unveiling the new SPL-X series subwoofers, and it’s set to be their public debut.
The SPL-X series is built on the advanced DSP platform we've seen in the MiniVee X and SC1500 models. Available in 10", 12", 15", and 18" sizes, these subs combine cutting-edge tech with a sleek, curved cabinet design inspired by the "Digital Drive Plus" series. The enclosures are no joke—38mm thick walls with internal bracing provide robust resonance control, ensuring that the powerful magnet systems of the high-performance drivers operate flawlessly.
Under the hood, the SPL-X 10 runs at 1,000 watts RMS, while the SPL-X 18 packs a hefty 1,800 watts RMS. The newly designed drivers feature carbon fiber membranes, four-layer voice coils (102mm in the larger models, 76mm in the SPL-X 10), double centering spiders, and triple rear-ventilated motor units. What does all that mean? Deep, clean, and powerful bass that hits you right where it counts.
Integration into your existing setup should be smooth. With high-quality balanced and unbalanced inputs/outputs and solid speaker terminals, these subs are ready to slot into both HiFi and home cinema systems. The Velodyne Acoustics AutoEQ app makes controlling and adjusting the subs straightforward, allowing you to fine-tune performance to your room's acoustics and your personal preferences.
Setup is further simplified with the included measuring microphone, which facilitates automatic room measurement and sound optimization. For those who love to tweak settings, the SPL-X series offers advanced configuration options:
But Velodyne isn't stopping there. They're also introducing several other innovations:
For those lucky enough to attend ISE 2025, Velodyne Acoustics will be presenting these new offerings in Hall 2, Stand 2J405. It's a chance to get up close with the latest in subwoofer technology from a brand that's been pushing the boundaries of bass for years. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
