XACT Audio has unveiled the XACT N1, a network switch meticulously engineered for audiophiles who demand uncompromising sound quality. Unlike conventional so-called "audiophile" switches that typically repurpose IT-grade hardware with minor tweaks, the XACT N1 is built entirely from scratch to ensure sonic purity throughout the audio signal path.
The N1 features a custom-designed motherboard optimized specifically for audio streaming, coupled with an OCXO master clock and a dedicated linear power supply. This setup minimizes noise and interference, maintaining the integrity of the musical signal from source to playback. Additional specifications include a fully isolated 1 Gbit RJ45 port with optical separation at data, clock, and ground levels, an SFP port, four standard LAN ports, and a galvanically isolated Ethernet port.
Underpinning the N1 is the OPTIMO N1 linear power supply, which provides three separate galvanically isolated rails to further reduce electrical noise. The audio-optimized firmware has been fine-tuned through extensive listening sessions to enhance clarity, spaciousness, and emotional depth, striving to deliver a sound image free from digital harshness.
"From the outset, achieving reference-level performance necessitated a clean-slate approach. The N1 wasn't merely modified – it was created from the ground up, with every design decision centered on sound quality," stated Marcin Ostapowicz, founder of XACT Audio.
The XACT N1 is now available in Europe through selected dealers and the official JCAT online store, priced at €6,000.
