The Sony TC-K815S is a cassette tape deck manufactured between 1994 and 1996 in Japan. It features a sleek black design and is powered by a consumption of 21 W. The dimensions are 430 mm in width, 123 mm in height, and 306 mm in depth, with an approximate weight of 4.9 kg. The unit originally retailed for about 850 DM. It offers multiple connection options with line inputs and outputs, as well as a headphone jack. The audio construction includes three heads: an erase head (S&F), a record head (SD), and a playback head (SD). The deck is equipped with three motors: a DC servo capstan motor, a winding DC motor, and a mechanical system motor also driven by a DC motor. For playback, it supports automatic detection of Type I, II, and IV tapes, displaying the type on the front panel. The frequency response varies depending on the tape type and is impressive, ranging from 20 Hz to 20 kHz for Type IV tapes. Distortion levels are at 0.4% for Type I and 1.5% for Type IV. It also features noise reduction capabilities with Dolby B, C, HX-Pro, and S technologies, along with an MPX filter. The deck does not include auto reverse and has no pitch control or CD synchro recording functionality. Unique features include a dual capstan drive, quartz lock servo, and a tape calibration system with an integrated tone generator for bias and level adjustments. The TC-K815S also has a VU meter with a graphic level limiter, an electronic counter, and a timer-controlled playback and recording feature for added convenience.
