Samsung Display Unveils Next-Gen OLED Panels with 5,000 Nits Brightness for Laptops and Smartphones

Samsung Display has unveiled its latest generation of OLED panels, engineered specifically for integration into laptops and smartphones. This new display technology achieves a typical brightness of 3,000 nits, with peak brightness reaching an impressive 5,000 nits. These enhancements are made possible by Samsung’s proprietary on-cell film (OCF) technology, which marks a significant advancement in display performance.

The OCF-based OLED panels demonstrate a 1.5-fold increase in brightness compared to previous generations, all while maintaining the same energy consumption levels. This balance of high brightness and energy efficiency is crucial for improving outdoor visibility without sacrificing battery life. Additionally, the removal of the polarizer in the OCF structure reduces brightness loss by over 50%, resulting in superior luminous efficiency and allowing the panels to operate using only about 63% of the energy typically required by standard OLED displays.

Beyond smartphones and laptops, Samsung is expanding the application of its new OLED technology to innovative device formats, including those with foldable and rollable screens. The slimmer panel design, achieved through OCF technology, enables up to a 20% reduction in thickness compared to conventional OLED panels. This reduction not only enhances durability and visual clarity but also facilitates the creation of more versatile and aesthetically pleasing device form factors.
