Golden accents and adaptive silicone tips enhance design and ANC experience.
Bone conduction microphones improve call clarity in noisy environments.
Enhanced audio with additional planar diaphragm driver for high-frequency clarity.
I've been keeping an eye on Huawei's latest releases, and it looks like the FreeBuds Pro 4 have finally made their way from China to the German market. They're available for order now, and it seems they've packed in quite a few upgrades over the FreeBuds Pro 3.
Starting with the design, there's not a massive overhaul, but the golden rims on the earbuds are a nice touch, setting them apart from the previous generation. They've retained that comfortable fit we appreciated before, which is great for passive noise isolation. But what's really interesting is the active noise cancellation. This time, they've introduced new, flexible silicone tips that adapt individually to your ear canal, potentially enhancing the ANC experience.
For those of us who care about call quality, Huawei has incorporated bone conduction microphones in each earbud. This means ambient noise can be better filtered out during calls, which is a big plus if you're often on the move or in noisy environments.
Under the hood, they've kept the 11 mm driver from the FreeBuds Pro 3 but have also included an additional planar diaphragm driver to improve clarity in the high frequencies. Battery life sees a slight improvement too—now offering up to five hours with ANC on, compared to the previous four and a half hours. With the charging case, you can get up to 23 hours.
A new feature that caught our attention is the head gesture control. It reminds us a bit of what Apple's doing with their AirPods 4. Basically, you can nod or shake your head to accept or reject calls. It's a novel way to interact with your earbuds without reaching for your phone.
As for availability, the FreeBuds Pro 4 are priced at 199 euros. They come in black, white, and green, all accented with golden edges on both the buds and the case. While retailers like MediaMarkt are currently offering only the black and white versions, the green variant is available directly from Huawei.
