About Tannoy
Founded in 1926 by Yorkshire engineer Guy Fountain, Tannoy pioneered the famous Dual Concentric driver in 1947 - technology still used today. Originally based in London, the company moved manufacturing to Coatbridge, Scotland in the 1970s. After various ownership changes, Tannoy is now part of Music Tribe (parent of Behringer, Midas, Turbosound). The company is notable for its professional studio monitors and hi-fi speakers, serving both professional and consumer markets. Music Group plans to move some production from Scotland to China, though prestigious lines remain Scottish-made. Tannoy will celebrate its centenary in 2026, making it the fifth-oldest hi-fi company worldwide. Their Dual Concentric technology remains a cornerstone of modern speaker design.
