The Teac CD-Z 500 is a sophisticated CD player that integrates various advanced technologies to enhance audio playback quality. At its core, it features the ZD-II distortion shaper, an improved iteration of the ZD circuit. This innovation utilizes high-frequency-concentrated dither to effectively place dither signals outside the audible range, resulting in a high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) and significantly reduced distortion. The player is equipped with an 18-bit 4 DAC configuration, which contributes to its exceptional sound quality.
For jitter reduction, the built-in digital phase synchronization circuit is capable of cancelling jitter up to ± 8 clocks, thereby enhancing the playback accuracy. The digital filter operates with an 18-bit 8-times oversampling setup, enabling the implementation of low-order low-pass filters that improve group delay characteristics.
The CD player features a midship mounting design, which positions the entirety of its mechanism centrally within the housing. This layout allows for the heavy transformer to be optimally placed at the back panel, significantly isolating the servo (digital) system from the audio (analog) system to reduce interference. This arrangement not only contributes to an ideal chassis balance but also increases the player’s durability by minimizing the impact on left and right circuits.
The mechanical base employs a unique glass fiber compound that enhances stability through a robust three-point support system designed to combat torsion, vibration, and resonance. The newly developed CN servo mechanism offers reduced noise in the analog system by filtering out unnecessary current disturbances.
Additionally, the CD-Z 500 includes TEAC's proprietary Track & Focus Holding System (T.F.H.S.), which enhances the player’s ability to read discs accurately, even in the presence of scratches or dirt. The front panel consists of a thick aluminum material, joined to a PVC thick steel plate, forming a sturdy double structure that mitigates the effects of vibration.
User-friendly features include an electric volume control, display ON/OFF, and FIX/VARIABLE analog output options. Editing functionalities are available to facilitate cassette editing, with features such as program pauses, random memory programming for up to 20 songs, index search, and an auto space function. Moreover, a timer play feature allows users to initiate playback at specified times. The player is also equipped with remote control functionality.
