The Technics SU-C800U MK2 is a preamplifier that was manufactured between 1998 and 1999 in Osaka, Japan. It features a sleek Technics black finish and is designed for analog use. The unit includes a remote control and operates with a power consumption similar to that of its companion models, the Technics SU-A800D MK2 and SU-A900D MK2. Its compact dimensions are 430 mm in width, 69.3 mm in height, and 307 mm in depth, while it weighs approximately 2.7 kg. This preamp is equipped with six inputs, including two phono inputs compatible with a 2.5 mV signal at a load of 47kOhm, allowing for a maximum input voltage of 150 mV. The additional inputs consist of Tuner, CD, Aux, and two Tape/DCC inputs, each supporting 200 mV at a load of 27kOhm. Output options include two Tape Rec Out connections as well as a Pre Out with a 1V output level. 
The frequency response of the SU-C800U MK2 varies by input; for phono, it ranges from 30 Hz to 15 kHz, while Tuner, CD, Aux, Tape1, and Tape2 provide an impressive 3 Hz to 80 kHz (+0,-3dB) and 20 Hz to 20 kHz (+0,-0.3dB). The unit is characterized by a low distortion factor of 0.01%, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 76 dB for phono inputs and 90 dB for other inputs. Moreover, it offers a stereo channel separation of 50 dB, with tone control for bass at 50 Hz and treble at 20 kHz, both adjustable up to +10 dB or down to -10 dB. Notably, the SU-C800U MK2 includes direct or line-straight modes for tone control bypass and features a virtual battery operation designed to minimize power supply noise, although a dedicated battery model is available separately. This preamplifier is designed to be part of a larger system, particularly working in conjunction with models such as the Technics SU-A800D MK2 and SE-A800S MK2.
