Acoustat was a pioneering United States manufacturer of electrostatic loudspeakers founded by James C. Strickland in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1973. First product shipped in 1976 with the Model X. The company was known for innovative full-range electrostatic speakers with lifetime warranties and became the biggest selling valve amp of the late 1980s. Filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1984 and was acquired by David Hafler Co. in November 1984, later becoming part of Rockford Fosgate. The company is now defunct - no longer manufacturing speakers since the early 1990s.
