Canton was founded in October 1972 by Hubert Milbers, Otfried Sandig, Wolfgang Seikritt, and Günther Seitz in Weilrod, Germany. The company name combines the Latin 'cantare' (to sing) and German 'ton' (musical tone). Starting with 35 employees in 1973, Canton has grown to become Germany's leading speaker manufacturer with a 30% market share and the second-largest in Europe. The family-owned business remains under the leadership of founder Günther Seitz and his son Achim Seitz, employing around 120 people across facilities in Germany, Czech Republic, and China. With over 50 million Euros in annual turnover and 1,400 dealers worldwide, Canton exports to 53 countries. In 2022, the company celebrated its 50th anniversary with special GS editions honoring co-founder Günther Seitz, continuing their tradition of premium German-engineered speakers.
