The JBL 4340 is a four-way studio monitor speaker system launched in 1975, designed for high accuracy in sound reproduction. This system utilizes a multi-amplifier structure, distinguishing it from the JBL 4341 which employs a network system. The design features a 38 cm cone woofer (2231A) for low frequencies and a 25 cm cone woofer (2121) for both mid and low ranges. In the mid-range, it employs a horn-type unit consisting of a driver (2420), an exponential horn (2307), and an acoustic lens (2308). For high frequencies, a horn-type tweeter (2405) is included. Each driver is built with an Alnico V magnet and an edge-wound ribbon voice coil, enhancing sound performance. The mid-low band unit (2121) offers a magnetic flux density of 10,000 gauss, balancing sound quality and weight at 2.9 kg. The speaker system features adjustable level controls for mid-low, mid-high, and high frequencies. It supports horizontal and vertical directional characteristics of 60° and 30° at 16 kHz, respectively. The 4340 model requires additional components such as a power amplifier and specific filter boards to function effectively. With a robust enclosure volume of 156 liters, it comes in gray and walnut finishes. Dimensions are 600 mm in width, 950 mm in height, and 500 mm in depth, weighing 72 kg. The frequency response ranges from 35 Hz to 20 kHz ± 3 dB, and it has a sound pressure level of 93 dB at an impedance of 8 Ω.
