The JBL S 99 Athena is a passive loudspeaker that was produced between 1970 and 1973. Originally introduced as the Lancer 99, it is one of the earlier models of active speakers, which later saw a passive variant released. The Athena S99 features a two-way bass reflex design, notable for its sensitivity of 80 dB at 1 watt from a distance of 15 feet. Its nominal impedance is rated at 8 ohms, making it compatible with a wide range of amplification options. The crossover frequency is set at 2000 Hz, ensuring optimal performance between the woofer and tweeter. The system utilizes the LE20-1 tweeter, which can also be paired with the 035TiA diaphragm, and the LE14A woofer, compatible with the LE14H-1 model, providing a robust low-frequency response. With a power handling capacity of 35 watts RMS and a peak handling of 150 watts, the Athena S99 is designed to deliver impressive audio performance. The cabinets have been sympathetically restored, maintaining perfect condition, and the hand-carved, fretwork grills are an exceptional detail, highlighting the craftsmanship of the era. Dimensions of the cabinet are 14 inches wide by 24 inches tall and 12 inches deep, with a weight of 51 pounds each.
