Leema Acoustics was founded in 1998 by two former BBC sound engineers, Lee Taylor and Mallory Nicholls, with their shared passion for audio reproduction leading them to push the boundaries of loudspeaker design. Their initial project was a bold endeavor to design a miniature loudspeaker capable of outperforming larger systems, culminating in the development of the Xen micro monitor after four years of intense work. Following the Xen's success, Leema expanded into audio electronics with the Tucana integrated amplifier (2006), winning Hi Fi News amplifier of the year award, followed by the Antila CD player which won best CD player award in 2007. In 2014, the company formally merged with Davlec, a local Welsh manufacturer, bringing production and design teams under one roof in Welshpool. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2023, Leema unveiled the entire new Quantum series, including the Electron CD player, Positron streamer, Neutron DAC/preamp, and Graviton power amp. The company continues operating as Leema Electro Acoustics Limited with 5 employees, maintaining their reputation for high-quality, UK hand-built products.
