Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 Finally Revealed

18 January 2025 by Mike Danyk

It's been a long time coming, but it looks like the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 are finally on the horizon. Many of us remember when the original Powerbeats Pro launched back in 2019, offering a reliable and secure option for our workout sessions with their distinctive earhook design. Since then, we've been eagerly awaiting an update, and recent certifications from the FCC and BIS suggest that the wait might soon be over.

The upcoming Powerbeats Pro 2 are expected to retain the iconic earhook design that ensures they stay put during even the most intense workouts. This is great news for those of us who struggle with earbuds that just won't stay in place. But the design isn't the only thing to look forward to; the new model is rumored to pack in some significant upgrades.

One of the most exciting additions is Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency Mode. These features have become standard in premium earbuds, and their inclusion would bring the Powerbeats Pro 2 up to speed with other top-tier options. Support for Apple's Spatial Audio is also anticipated, promising a more immersive listening experience.

There's talk of the earbuds featuring Bluetooth Low Energy, which should enhance battery life and provide a more stable connection. While the certification documents haven't confirmed Bluetooth Multipoint support—allowing connection to multiple devices simultaneously—we're hopeful that this could still make the final cut.

An intriguing rumor is the inclusion of an integrated heart rate monitor. While in-ear heart rate sensors aren't entirely new (remember the Jabra Elite Sport?), integrating this feature could make these earbuds an even more valuable companion for fitness enthusiasts. Being able to track heart rate directly through the earbuds would streamline workouts without the need for additional devices.

The charging case is set to see some improvements as well. A slimmer design would make it more pocket-friendly, and the shift to USB-C charging aligns with the latest EU regulations. We're also expecting support for Qi wireless charging, which adds a layer of convenience. Having dealt with inconsistent charging in the past, a more reliable and modern case design is a welcome change.

Manufactured in Vietnam, the Powerbeats Pro 2 should be compatible with both iOS and Android devices, making them accessible to a wide range of users. They're expected to launch in black and white, with the possibility of additional colors down the line.

While we don't have an exact release date yet, the regulatory filings hint at a launch in the coming months. Given the anticipation and the upgrades on offer, the Powerbeats Pro 2 might just be worth the wait.
