The Onkyo DV-S501 is a dual-format player designed to handle both DVDs and CDs, manufactured between 1998 and 1999. This model stands out for its ability to deliver impressive audio quality for CDs, comparable to that of dedicated CD players of its time. It incorporates features aimed at enhancing sound fidelity, including a signal-to-noise ratio of 96 dB and a dynamic range of 96 dB, while maintaining low total harmonic distortion levels at 0.006%. The player has digital outputs in both coaxial and optical formats, making it versatile for different audio setups. It measures 43.5 cm in width, 12 cm in height, and 30.6 cm in depth, weighing approximately 4.5 kg. The original model came in two color options: silver and black. Although primarily a DVD player, many users found its CD playback quality highly satisfactory, adding to its appeal as a budget-friendly audio solution. However, some units may no longer read DVDs, limiting its functionality to CD playback only.
