The Ortofon MCP 100 Super is a moving coil (MC) cartridge released around 1983, characterized by its blue housing. It is designed for high output, making it suitable for various audio applications. The frequency range of the cartridge extends from 5 Hz to 50 kHz, with a stated frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (+/- 2dB). The channel balance is specified at less than 1.5 dB at 1000 Hz, while the channel separation is more than 25 dB at the same frequency, decreasing to 18 dB at 15 kHz. The output voltage at 1000 Hz is 0.09 mV at a tracking speed of 5 cm/s, and it requires a termination resistance of 3 ohms per channel. The cartridge features a nude elliptical stylus with a tip mass of 0.5 mg, a vertical tracking angle of 20 degrees, and a dynamic compliance of 11µm in both horizontal and vertical orientation at 10 Hz. The tracking force for optimal performance ranges from 1.2g (12 mN) to 1.8g (18 mN), with a recommended force of 1.5g (15 mN). Its overall system weight is 6g. As an MC cartridge, the stylus cannot be replaced separately, and for any stylus replacement, the entire cartridge must be sent back to Ortofon for refurbishment.
