Børresen Unveils M2 Floorstanding Speakers with Groundbreaking Technology

Børresen has just unveiled their latest floorstanding speakers, the M2, and they're turning heads in the audiophile community. Coming out of Denmark, these speakers are a fusion of sleek design and state-of-the-art technology, aiming to deliver an unparalleled audio experience.

The team at Børresen set out to challenge the norms of current audio technology. They focused on creating entirely new speaker components, developing effective methods to combat resonance and vibration, and selecting materials that would elevate sound quality to extraordinary levels.

One of the most groundbreaking advancements is in the driver basket. It's a topology-optimized, 3D-printed design made from zirconium. This choice of material ensures exceptional stiffness, significantly reducing vibrations and resonance. The structure behind the diaphragm is engineered to retain energy efficiently, minimizing noise through maximum rigidity. Plus, the cavities in the basket are filled with zirconium powder, enhancing its damping characteristics.

The diaphragm used in the M-series midrange and woofers is another standout feature. It's a four-layer composition fused into a single unit: two layers of spread tow carbon fiber, an aramid honeycomb spacer layer, and a titanium layer with an Ansuz Supreme coating. This combination provides optimal stiffness while minimizing noise, resulting in reduced disruptive vibrations and resonances—even those above 8 kHz.

Børresen has also refined their patented iron-free magnet system. The inductance of their drivers is roughly twelve times lower than that of conventional iron-based drivers. By replacing traditional copper pole rings with custom-made silver rings, they've leveraged silver's superior conductivity to enhance performance. Advanced finite element methods were used to linearize and optimize the magnetic flux field, ensuring high efficiency and exceptional linearity.

The closed ribbon tweeter boasts an impressive efficiency of 94 dB, operating from around 2.5 kHz upwards. With an incredibly low moving mass of just 0.01 grams, it's capable of remarkable speed, essential for revealing delicate and intricate sonic details. Its robustness allows it to handle extremely high transient peaks without causing ear fatigue.

The crossover design is quite innovative. Utilizing a series crossover configuration, the drivers share the same electrical current in the crossover region. This ensures the electrical current remains phase-locked throughout the crossover area, leading to a more coherent audio experience. The coils are foil types, wrapped in paper insulation and vacuum-impregnated with resin for mechanical rigidity and stability. Capacitors consist of arrays of small military-grade stack-foil types, known for their superior mechanical stability and minimal inductance.

The cabinet design doesn't just look good; it's engineered for performance. The back features a curved recess inspired by Børresen's speaker stands, adding a touch of sophistication while aiding in resonance control. The internal wiring uses Ansuz Gold Signature cables, featuring advanced audio technology for an extremely clear, natural, and authentic sound reproduction.

In terms of specs, the M2 offers a frequency response range of 30 Hz to 50 kHz and a sensitivity rating of 86 dB (1 Watt). It measures 129.2 x 36.2 x 52.5 cm (H x W x D) and weighs 64.3 kg, with an impedance of six Ohms.

While pricing and delivery details are still under wraps, the M2 will be available in black and white finishes. Given the innovative technology and meticulous engineering, these speakers are poised to make a significant impact in the high-end audio scene.
