The Kenwood X-83 is an auto-reverse double cassette tape deck that was manufactured from 1989 to 1990. Designed as a component of the Kenwood M-83 series, it includes features like automatic tape type recognition and a four-digit electronic tape counter. The device is powered by two motors: one DC servo motor for the capstan and another for the coils. It utilizes three sound heads: one for erasing, one for recording, and one for playback. The X-83 has a frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz for normal tapes, extending to 16 kHz for chrome and metal tapes. It also incorporates Dolby Noise Reduction with options for Dolby B and C. With a signal-to-noise ratio ranging from 58 dB (Dolby off) to 75 dB (Dolby C), it provides good audio clarity for cassette playback. The cassette deck has a rewind speed of 90 seconds for C-60 tapes. Its dimensions are 360 mm wide, 119 mm high, and 354 mm deep, weighing approximately 4.1 kg. The new price at launch was around 1,998 DM, excluding additional components like an equalizer or speakers.
