The Rega P3, first introduced in 1977, is a belt-driven turntable celebrated for its combination of simplicity, performance, and design. The P3 2000 version, produced between 2000 and 2007, came equipped with the RB300 tonearm, known for its one-piece die-cast aluminum-alloy construction. This turntable employs a solid plinth, a 12mm glass platter, and features rubber suspension for the motor, contributing to its stability and sound quality. Setting up the P3 is straightforward, thanks to its user-friendly design that includes a hinged dust cover as well as an arm lift for easy record handling. The P3 is capable of playing both 33 1/3 RPM records and 45s, and it offers a satisfying listening experience when paired with suitable cartridges. The model has seen various iterations, with the latest version known as the Rega Planar 3, priced around $945 without a cartridge and featuring many upgrades while maintaining a similar aesthetic. The P3/RB300 combo was priced at $750 in 2007, providing a competitive option in its class. Overall, it’s appreciated for its vibrant sound and robustness, making it a common choice among audiophiles.
